    • Medium Length / Moyen Métrage
    • Short Film / Court Métrage

A legendary 3-week blow-out of worldwide fantastic cinema taking place each July in the heart of Montreal, now deep in planning its 18th edition.

We’re currently on the lookout for features and shorts to showcase at this summer’s event. What exactly are we looking for? While predominantly a fantasy/action/horror festival, Fantasia has always embraced films whose sheer individuality puts them in a genre of their own. If you’re not sure whether your film is right for us, consider that we’ve showcased everything from captivating dramas, eccentric comedies, provocative documentaries, mind-blowing experimental works, musicals, even atypical children’s films. In other words, set our minds’ eyes on fire and we’ll do everything possible to get your film seen. Feel free to browse our 2013 website for a better understanding of our programming tastes.

Taking things a step further, in 2012, Fantasia launched the Frontières International Co-Production Market as well as a film market component. Our 2013 Frontières lineup featured dazzling new projects from Joe Dante, Buddy Giovinazzo, Bobcat Goldthwait, Richard Stanley and Andrzej Zulawski, to name a few.

Any work produced in the past 18 months is eligible for both our official jury competition and our Public’s Prize.

There is no entry fee for Quebec productions (note that Qc prods must be submitted through our website and not here).

FirstGlance's mission is to provide indie filmmakers, both professional and student, the opportunity for exposure, exhibition, encouragement and opportunities to get visibility beyond the festival route.

In the past 16 years, FirstGlance has become a premiere international venue for up-and-coming indie directors, animators, and documentarians from around the globe to showcase their amazing films.

The festival has been named multiple times by Moviemaker Magazine, as "one of the best film festival investments", named by Time Magazine as "one of the festival's for the rest of us" and has been touted as one of the biggest little festivals in North America and "Philly's Slamdance"

Established in 1996, FirstGlance is proud to be recognized as one of the first independent film festivals in the United States. As the festival expands with new sponsorships, record attendance and bigger prize packages, we look forward to finding even more ways to support filmmakers.

We are a festival by indie filmmakers, for indie filmmakers and we take pride in being a visionary festival that celebrates independent film on both coasts.
