  • H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival & CthulhuCon
    Find out more

    CATEGORIES:

    • Short
    • Opener / Trailer
    • Feature
    • Screenplay

    MISSION & OBJECTIVE:

Our purpose is simple: to promote the works of H.P. Lovecraft (as well as cosmic horror & weird tales) through cinematic adaptations by student, amateur, and professional filmmakers.

The fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, though still popular in print, has fared rather poorly when adapted to film by commercial filmmakers. Most of the problem stems from both a failure to capture the essence of Lovecraft's unique and meticulously developed atmosphere and an inability to remain faithful to the story without adding unnecessary Hollywood devices in order to sell the film.

We hope that through this festival, H.P. Lovecraft will be taken seriously as a writer and his work more faithfully adapted to film.

To go with our popular website www.wildsound.ca

This is a festival geared to make sure your film/script gets shown in front of a large audience so you can actually see what people think of your work. We focus-group it with the audience, and our monthly guest industry moderator facilitates the audiences questions. This is a festival of networking and positive communication so you can take your filmmaking/screenwriting career to the next level.

There is no judgment occurring in the moderation and the agenda is to have a 8-12 minute video of people talking positively about your film. (see our website for more details). It's a great selling point video to get your film to other festivals and get a distribution deal. (also see our popular YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/wildcardpic)

Scripts get read at the monthly screenplay festival and then shown online for the whole world to see. Many writers obtain agents and get their idea/scripts optioned because of this.
